Amanda Kenney-As a child, Amanda developed a passion for storytelling. She even did her own “news broadcasts” in front of a mirror, using Manheim Steamroller as her intro music.
Earning her broadcast journalism degree from Hofstra University, she landed internships in New York City for WABC and NBC News. Amanda then spent the next 15 years traveling across the country, working in different newsrooms and working her way up from up from a production assistant to news anchor.
She covered national historic events; interviewed fascinating leaders such as Reverend Al Sharpton, President Joe Biden and Dolly Parton; and gave a voice to the voiceless in communities where no one would listen. Amanda was nominated for multiple Emmys, winning her first for covering the tragic 2026 flooding in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
Her favorite news segment, though, involved a girl’s pet turkey, born during the pandemic and destined to become Thanksgiving dinner. Because the girl was home, going to school virtually, she and the turkey formed an unusual but fascinating friendship. The turkey spent hours inside the house, playing dolls and watching TV. Eventually, that friendship made the turkey part of the family, not part of a meal.
