The Mission of Family Service of Roanoke Valley is to support individuals and families as they journey toward lives of emotional wellness, healthy relationships, and a future filled with hope.

Family Service of Roanoke Valley is asking us to rally our friends, family, and networks to support their work. By making a donation to our duo, you will help support more Family Service Counseling, Youth Development, Healthy Relationship Groups, Public Guardianship, and Personal Affairs Management services for the Roanoke Valley. This funding will help bring hope to those who are struggling with a mental health challenge.

Dr. Bonnie Hennig-Trestman is the Director of Carilion Clinic Huntington's Disease Program at Carilion Clinic and an Assistant Professor, Department of Basic Science Education at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
She is an accomplished clinical leader who bridges the needs of the community with excellent clinical care and a productive research environment. She has over 30 years of expertise providing and guiding clinical services to patients and family members suffering from neurodegenerative, physical, and psychiatric illnesses. She is a seasoned clinical researcher, consistently able to meet all accredited institutional review board and regulatory requirements, with repeated success implementing and overseeing projects with clinical research organizations, and with federal and pharmaceutical funding.

She holds a Bachelor of Science and an MSW from Boston University along with a Doctorate (DSW) from Capella University.


Dr. Robert Trestman is Professor and Chair of the Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology and M.D. from the University of Tennessee and trained in psychiatry and neurobiology at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He has authored over 180 peer reviewed articles and other publications, and is the senior editor of the first textbook in the field of correctional psychiatry, the Oxford Textbook of Correctional Psychiatry. Dr. Trestman is the co-developer of START NOW, a skills-based psychotherapy in use in five countries. Dr. Trestman has given over 150 regional, national, and international invited presentations. Dr. Trestman is the Chair of the APA Council on Healthcare Systems & Financing, is Chair-Elect of the American Hospital Association’s Behavioral Health Council, serves as Chair of the Research Committee of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law Institute for Education and Research, and chairs the American Association of Chairs of Departments of Psychiatry’s Clinical Enterprise Committee.
